P. berghei ANKA Ookinete
Difference from wild-type
RMgm-5045
Normal numbers of ookinetes are formed with wild-type morphology. Evidence is provided for reduced gliding motility of ookinetes.

P. berghei ANKA Oocyst
Difference from wild-type
RMgm-5045
Evidence is provided for reduced gliding motility of ookinetes. Reduced oocyst production. On days 9 and 14, oocyst diameter was significantly smaller than of wild-type oocysts. Transmission electron microscopy provided evidence that on day 17 oocysts exhibited wall thinning and indistinguishable internal structures (however, sporozoites are formed; see below).

P. berghei ANKA Sporozoite
Difference from wild-type
RMgm-5045
When mosquitoes were allowed to feed on naive mice 25 days after an infectious blood meal, they transmitted both WT and KO parasites, suggesting that OSCP is not essential for sporozoite function.
