Imaging data (from Malaria Metabolic Pathways)

Localization of Protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase PfPPO. Immunofluorescence data presented in Fig. 5 indicate that PfPPO colocalizes with PfHSP60 PF10_0153, a mitochondrial marker, but not with porphobilinogen deaminase PfPBGD PFL0480w, an apicoplast marker, establishing that PfPPO is a mitochondrial enzyme. IE, infected erythrocyte; P, parasite; H, hemozoin. Scale bar = 5 mmNagaraj VA, Arumugam R, Prasad D, Rangarajan PN, Padmanaban G. Protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase from Plasmodium falciparum is anaerobic and is localized to the mitochondrion. Mol Biochem Parasitol. 2010 174:44-52. Copyright Elsevier 2011.
